The nature of Aavasaka has a long history, and Aavasaksa is an excellent example of the so-called Kalottivaara/Calotte hill. Calotte hill refers to a hill that was never completely submerged in water after the Ice Age, but its top remained as an island above the water surface. The height of the Aavasaksa hill is 242 meters.

Aavasaksa has been an important reference point for land surveying, as it is part of the Struve triangulation cahin built in the early 1800s, which made it possible to calculate the shape and size of the Earth more accurately than before.

Aavasaksa was awared the value of national landscape in 1993.
